Wine Advocate 93 points - The 2008 Alfa Centauri Red Blend is composed of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Cabernet Franc, and 15% Merlot aged for 18 months in new French oak. The Cabernet Sauvignon component was sourced from 100-year-old vines and the Cabernet Franc from 120-year-old vines. Purple in color, it surrenders an expressive bouquet of sandalwood, earthy minerals, dried herbs and spices, black currant, and blackberry. This sets the stage for a wine of exceptional volume, succulence, and length. It is likely to evolve for 4-5 years and offers a drinking window extending from 2017 to 2028. It could easily pass for a classified growth Bordeaux from a top vintage.
Wine Spectator 93 points - Dark and tangy, with bright acidity backing the racy cassis, raspberry and plum skin notes that display layers of graphite and cedar. This is polished, with a long aftertaste of underbrush, fruit and licorice. Drink now through 2018. 500 cases imported. –NW
