Deep ruby in color, the wine offers intense aromas and flavors of black fruit, dry herbs and spice. It is full-bodied with a velvety texture and balanced tannins, ending in a lengthy, elegant finish.
Barrua was first released in the 2002 vintage. The grapes are sourced from the Barrua and Narcao vineyards. Carignano, of Spanish origin and the blendís predominant grape, has found its perfect terroir in the warm, well-exposed Sardinian terrain. Bush vines are closely planted here, designed to minimize yields and maximize the wineís concentration.
Hand harvested whole bunches are destemmed, crushed and fermented on the skins for several days in stainless steel vats. The wine is oak aged before blending and bottle aging.

|In 2002, an extraordinary team of winemakers became convinced of an ideal connection between the land and climate of Sardinia and the Carignano grape. In that year, Agricola Punica was founded in the southwest region of the island and today produces two iconic wines based on this grape: Barrua and Montessu.
