Ultimate Beverage Challenge 94 points - Whiffs of chocolate and old cigar box emerge as this beauty warms, yielding to coffee and leather; the mouth fills with rounded mature flavors of baking spices, toasted coconut and black pepper, and finishes with a mouth watering astringency. (Mar 2012)
Wine Enthusiast 96 points - First nosing passes pick up incredibly zesty and harmonious aromas of dill, fennel and pepper; another seven minutes sees the bouquet turn elegant, oaky and herbal. Palate entry is semisweet, with deft traces of caramel and vanilla; by midpalate the flavors include marzipan, hard candy, dried herbs, green pepper and vanilla. Finish is long, luxurious and stately. A brandy-like Tequila that’s slightly richer than the terrific 2002 Reserva de la Familia.

For more than two centuries, Jose Cuervo has followed rigorous production standards to produce Reserva De La Familia. Only 18,000 bottles of the 100 percent blue agave anejo tequila are produced each year and a member of the Cuervo family personally samples each barrel to ensure its high quality.
This is part of a family tradition dating back to 1795, when the Jose Cuervo family would descend into their private cellar to share the finest tequila reserves with a select group of family and friends.
In 1995, to celebrate the 200-year anniversary of the Cuervo brand, the family decided to share the Reserva De La Familia by issuing limited edition bottles.
The meticulous care used to create this ultra-premium tequila is also extended to its packaging. Each bottle is carefully assembled by hand, numbered, dated and then placed in a handcrafted wooden box designed by a local artist. Luis Zarate was chosen to create the packaging artwork for the 2002 edition, entitled "Tinta, Savia and Espinas," which translates to "Ink, Sap and Thorns," three icons that symbolize tequila and the agave plant.
Aged in new French and American charred oak barrels, Reserva De la Familia has a full, mellow taste that combines floral, agave, vanilla, nut and cognac-like flavors and is sipped in a brandy snifter either straight or on the rocks.
