To create The Balvenie Port Wood Aged 21 Years, a marriage of rare Balvenie is transferred to port casks, or pipes, which have held fine port wines. Here it is sampled regularly by The Balvenie Malt Master to ensure that just the right amount of character is imparted by the port casks, enhancing and developing the single malt whilst preserving its original characteristics.
"The flagship single malt from Balvenie's little group of Port Wood whiskies. This bottling was finished in thirty year old port pipes and is a veritable master-class in poise and balance.
The aroma is elegant with white peach and a faint puff of smoke. It is surprisingly delicate. Abounding, yet fine. The sublime mouth feel carries, masterfully: red fruit, raisins, an edge of white grape and a very floral honey. The finish highlights cocoa, which is slightly bitter as it tails away gracefully." - The Master of Malt
