White peach, grapefruit and melon with a hint of pineapple flavours are supported by a soft and textured mouthfeel (achieved through malolactic fermentation). It may have no oak, but this wine has an abundance of character. Drink it with all seafood, delicate white meats and creamy pasta dishes.
This is the wine that started the company, before Sauvignon Blanc became famous! Our style -- ripe and forward with intense stone fruit and nashi pear flavors, coupled with powerful and strong citrus/pink grapefruit characters along with a nuttiness and generous mouth feel.
We seek to produce a wine that expresses the natural Chardonnay fruit characters (not hiding behind oak), being stonefruit and pineapple. The wine undergoes full malolactic fermentation to add roundness and fullness to the wine as well as hazelnut aromas and flavors. We aim for a full-bodied Chardonnay without the encumbrance of oak.

The grapes for this wine are from selected vineyards in Marlborough and Hawke’s Bay on the East Coast of New Zealand. These Chardonnay grapes were selected to create an approachable, and fruit-forward, unoaked-style Chardonnay. Exposure of the bunches to sunlight is imperative to our style, which is ripe and fruit driven. Canopy management reflects the desired flavor profile. Clone selection is important in this style as we seek intense stone fruit and pear flavors, coupled with powerful and strong citrus characters. Secondary malolactic fermentation gives nuttiness and generous mouthfeel.

|In 1996, Kim Crawford and his wife Erica fell in love with the idea of starting a winery. The only problem was they had little money. So Kim and Erica ran the company from a spare room of their home in Central Auckland, New Zealand. In their first vintage, they produced 4,000 cases without owning a single grapevine or tank.
With head-spinning speed, their powerful, aromatic wines gained a devoted, even fanatical, following. Just two years after startup, they began exporting their wines to the United States. Within four short years of their first release, the Crawfords had rented a state-of-the-art winery in Marlborough and began looking at vineyards they could buy.
In 2003, Kim Crawford Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc made Wine Spectator’s Top 100 List for the first time. And then again in 2005, 2006 and in 2008—the same year Wine Spectator also awarded our Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 91 points to mark seven years in a row of 90 plus points for this wine.
