Our 2011 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a harmonious and vibrant wine. This full-bodied, classic expression of Alexander Valley Cabernet in a cool vintage has a bright ruby-red color with purple undertones. The nose exudes aromas of black cherry, cedar and black olives. On the palate, its dried herb, cocoa and lavender flavors are framed by dusty tannins and a savory texture. This wine finishes with lively acidity and a lingering persistence. Given proper cellaring, this wine should give drinking pleasure through 2029.
Produced at our Geyserville winery, the foundation of our Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon includes fruit from our Red Tail, Miraval and Geyserville estate vineyards. With its excellent ripeness and depth, Miraval forms the backbone of the wine, while Red Tail is prized for the acidity, brightness and strawberry character and Geyserville offers a spicy character.
We age our Alexander Valley Cabernet in American oak barrels from our cooperage in Higbee, Missouri for approximately 24- 25 months, blending prior to barreling to achieve a balance of the wine’s primary elements before they are influenced by oak. After bottling, the wine is cellared for another 15 months prior to release. This extended aging process in barrel and bottle produces an approachable wine made in a food-friendly style, ready to drink upon release yet with enough tannin and body to benefit from further aging.
