"Voerzio’s 2004 Barolo Brunate captures the telltale balsamic notes of this justly famous site with gorgeous suggestions of mint, tobacco and licorice wrapped around an expressive, authoritative core of plush dark plums, prunes and black cherries. This dark, brooding Barolo finishes with big, building tannins that will require patience. A bottle of the 1997 I tasted alongside it had developed a flavor profile eerily similar to that of a 1991 Jaboulet Hermitage La Chapelle I tasted a few days prior...." - 12/07 - RP 97
"Dark ruby in color. Aromas of blackberry, licorice and aniseed. Full-bodied, chewy and very rich, with a tannic yet polished texture. Not giving much now, but there's excellent structure and balance. Muscular. Best after 2012." - WS 95
The Brunate vineyard makes the finest and raciest Barolos, and Roberto Voerzio makes the best Brunate. The dynamic winemaker is a fanatic for keeping his grape yields low, which is why his wines show such richness and concentration. This Brunate is wonderfully defined and firm, it finishes with big, ripe tannins and very good length. An outstanding Barolo, massive yet polished.
