"The best of Ramey's three new appellation bottlings starts out with attention-getting aromas of sweet cream, caramel and lots very deep and keenly defined ripe-apple fruit, and its beautifully composed flavors are likewise appointed with plentiful fruit and filled out with lovely oak. As well-balanced as it is so very rich, it shows terrific latter-palate extension with its very finely fit acids bringing brightness and length. It can easily take a few years of age." - CG 93
Another fabulous Ramey Chardonnay, this time from the famed Napa Carneros Hudson Vineyard, with its rolling hills and lighter more friable soils than Hyde. More muscular than the Hyde, its equally famous counterpart, the 2004 vintage was rated 94 points by Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar and 91 points by Robert Parker.
"Also north of the Carneros Highway, but further west, the terrain here is more rolling than that of Hyde, the soil lighter and more friable. Blocks and selections include E-block (Wente), planted in 1984 (and unfortunately, the final year for this block, which is being replanted); B-block, a younger planting of Wente selected from Larry Hyde's vineyard; and L-block, a Robert Young selection (originally Wente) planted in 1989. Hudson Vineyard wines tend to a more muscular, masculine character-broad-shouldered, if you will." -Winery
