Ultimate Beverage Challenge 85 points - Scents of sweet orange, zest, blanched almonds, apricot, and marzipan fill the nose. Rich and quite viscous on the palate with waves of sweet orange presented on a soft, brandy canvas. (Mar 2012)
This lively liqueur is made from a blend of premium triple oranges and mature, barrel-aged, Italian brandy. The craftsmen at Stock imbued the liqueur with a fetching bronze color and supple, medium-weight body. Its expansive bouquet is loaded with the aroma of fresh oranges and delicate notes of almonds and brandy. The lush, semi-sweet palate is an offering of zesty orange and lemon flavors, and sumptuous Italian brandy. The liqueur sports a warm, flavorful finish.
The natural inclination is to serve Gran Gala in a heated snifter or on-the-rocks. While certainly a popular way to enjoy it, the liqueur enjoys many uses behind the bar.
The most noteworthy application is as a modifier in a specialty margarita, where its brandy-base and exuberant orange flavor make it an ideal substitute for triple sec.
Some popular Gran Gala recipes include the Sea Breeze Margarita, Italian Martini and the Opulent Coffee.
